40 Thieves is a two-deck Solitaire game that’s very hard to win.
Forty cards are dealt into 10 columns of 4 cards each. Your goal is to build the foundations (on top) UP in suit, from Ace to King. The bottom card of each column is available to be played on foundations or moved to other columns. The top card of the “waste” or “discard” pile is also available. Columns may only be built DOWN in suit. (For example, a 3 of clubs may only be played on a 4 of clubs.) A space made by removing all the cards in a column may be filled with any available card. Click on the deck in the lower right corner to turn over the top card.
You may only go through the deck once.
To move a card, just drag it to where you want to play it and let go. You may also click on a card with the left mouse button to play it, in which case it will be moved to the program’s idea of its most logical destination.
You can always undo your last move by choosing “Undo” from the Edit menu or by clicking the right mouse button. In fact, the default is to allow unlimited Undo’s. This default, along with scoring method, card back design, playfield background color, and whether or not to show the elapsed time for games, can be changed by choosing “Preferences” from the Options menu. A move that has been undone can be replayed as it was originally played by choosing “Redo” from the Edit menu, or by holding down the Shift key and clicking the right mouse button.
In addition, the game can track the statistics and preferences of multiple players, remembering them from session to session. New players can be signed in at any time by choosing “New Player” from the File menu.
Good luck.

Another thing that really makes 40 Thieves v1.10 enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to 40 Thieves v1.10. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
