Game rewards player for simple slow riding ahead, but the score meter rises very slowly then. To increase the score faster you must perform various tricks, like riding the wrong lane, crossing red lights, performing wheelies etc. Game ends either when you finish all districts or lose all lives. Life is lost when your bike hits part of the background (lamp post, fence) or moving object (car, pedestrian). There are “safe” areas, usually pavements, where you can ride when there’s too much traffic on road, but score freezes in such case and they are not 100% safe.
Ragmeg Alleycat features two playing styles: fixed and free. In fixed mode you can do skid brakes, but you cannot change direction while braking. In free mode you can’t do skid brakes (you get less points), but the movement of the bike is free. It’s up to you which style suits you best.
Game can be played in two-player hotseat mode. Score doubles, but there are still only three lives for both players. Also, both players compete for jerseys in this mode.
There’s also a highscore list showing top five riders and owners of all eight jerseys.
Watch out for Esc key, because it quits the game without warning.
Another thing that really makes Ragmeg Alleycat enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to Ragmeg Alleycat. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
