Similar to chess, but with different pieces that include mirrors, blocks and a laser!
The king (which looks like a diamond) is the crucial piece; once captured or destroyed, the games is over. The king may capture other pieces by landing on them.
The cubes (which have only one reflective surface) can also capture pieces by landing on them.
The triangular mirrors also have only one reflective surface.
The beam splitter will split the laser beam into two beams in opposite directions.
The diagonal mirrors have two reflective surfaces. The horizontal and vertical mirrors also have two reflective surfaces. If the laser hits a mirror “edgewise”, nothing happens to the mirrors.
The hypercube will send any piece it lands on to a random square on the board. It may only be used once per turn.
In addition, the shaded square in the center of the board is also a “hyper”-square.
Select pieces by moving the cursor with the arrow keys, and pressing Enter. Rotate pieces with the space bar. Fire the laser with “L” (after selecting it).
Each turn consists of two “moves” (move, rotate or fire).

Another thing that really makes Laser Chess enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to Laser Chess. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
