This is a first version of a program to make playing checkers possible over the modem. You may place the files in any directory as long as they are all in the same directory, but vbrun300.dll must be placed in your windows system directory. By typing in text and pressing return, in the white box at the bottom of the checkerboard screen, you can communicate with your opponent.
Use the online-help if you need help making a connection. This game is played with the drag and drop concept. Be careful to place your piece _directly_ on the square you wish to move to, or you may lose your turn, you can press the “my turn” button if this happens, but please do not abuse this or it may upset your opponent!! The “kill me” button removes the rest of your pieces from the board. When you click the “end turn” button after the “kill me” button, the game will end. The “jump” button will make the computer treat your previous move as a jump. Once again, please only use this button if the game “misunderstands” a move you make and not to gain an advantage over your opponent!!

Another thing that really makes CheckerCom enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to CheckerCom. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
