You may notice that this documentation file is fairly short. The reason is that the program really doesn’t need any documentation. You start the program by typing PAINTER and pressing Enter. That’s about all you need to know.
When you get past the registration screen, you are given a picture to play with. You can change the colors in this picture, go to the next or last picture, erase the colors in the current picture, restore the original colors of the picture, or exit the program.
If you choose to change the colors in the current picture, put the mouse pointer on the color of your choice and press the left mouse button. The current painting color will appear in the box at the bottom left of the screen. You can then paint any area of the picture you want. The only exception is that you cannot paint areas of the screen that are black.
If you want to start over and erase all the colors in the current picture, click on the box that looks like an eraser with the left mouse button and the picture will lose all of its color.
You can restore the colors that were last saved by clicking on the Undo box with the left mouse button.
When you are finished with the current picture, you can select another picture or exit the program. To select the next picture, click on the box with the arrow that points to the right. To select the last or previous picture, click on the box with the arrow that points to the left.
This version of the program comes with 10 pictures that I have taken the liberty of pre-coloring. Do not let my lack of taste discourage you, these pictures can have any colors you want. Remember, to instantly clear away all of the colors, just click on the box that looks like an eraser with the left mouse button.

Another thing that really makes Coloring Book Version v1.4a enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to Coloring Book Version v1.4a. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
