You have to switch the traffic-lights in order to keep the cars running.
Once you have a traffic jam situation where the cars are waiting outside the game borders then a countdown clock will appear and you have the time before it reaches zero to make sure the traffic is flowing again.
(NOTE: You do have a slight delay in that the countdown will not start until a car spawns outside the screen, so even if the jam is up to the screen edge it won’t start countdown until the next car comes along and can not move) The more jams that occur, the faster the countdown timer reaches zero.
The game is based on the old C64 game Traffic. It was (is) so much fun to play it on the C64. But each time I did, I was yearning for a real updated version running on a modern PC with modern ‘cartoony’ graphics.
This is also my first attempt at using Game Maker and a game, and hopefully you will enjoy this and many future remakes. It’s not totally how I wanted it to be but using my experience as of now its the best I can produce.

Another thing that really makes Traffic 2006 enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to Traffic 2006. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
