College Coach is a game of coaching a college football team, including drafting college players, trading, selecting and cutting players, choosing overall game strategies, and playoffs and finally the super bowl. It is possible to let the game run all by itself, but that’s not really much fun. I only use it for beginning a new set of teams, so that the NCAA is up to a decent level of competition when I become the coach of a team. As a coach, you can coach any NCAA team, and have the chance of leading any team to be champions. There is no inherent difference between any of the teams. The computer can play at three levels, ranging from rather easy to fairly challenging. The level of play depends on your conference: Big 8, Big 10, and Pac 10 are the toughest; ACC, Big East, and SEC are the middle; and Southwest, WAC, and Independent are the easiest. Note that this is more a rating of the average level of teams in the conferences, not necessarily the best teams in the conference.
Some features of the game are the accuracy of the coaching job, letting players get older, which gets them better at first, but then they go over the hill, and the excitement/heartbreak of seeing your team win or lose because you decided to try a different offense in the rose bowl. Teams are a full 45 players, and must have reserve players in case of injuries.

Another thing that really makes College Coach v2.3 enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to College Coach v2.3. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
