Chaos Defender is an arcade shooter based on the classic Space Invaders coin op. The player tries to decimate the endless phalanxes of “computer viruses” before they can infect the system he’s defending. The game never ends- the goal is to get the highest score possible.
Chaos Defender was created in January – March 2002 as a senior project for J.L. Mann Academy, Greg’s high school. Release 1.0 was the version finished in that time. The main elements of the game are complete and functional, but due to time constraints, some elements were left out. These included a power up system, sound effects, and extra ships. In addition, the game had a compatibility issue with certain computers (especially Dells).
Release 1.1 addresses all of these lingering issues: it is Chaos Defender as it was meant to be played. Power ups, extra ships, sound effects, new graphics, and a little more polish all around were added. Most importantly, the game now works (to our knowledge) on all systems without error.
We hope you enjoy the game!

Another thing that really makes Chaos Defender enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to Chaos Defender. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
