This game is a strategic level simulation of the American Civil War. To win the game, the Union must control 37 areas at the end of its turn. The Confederacy must control 27 areas to win. The game ends after the Summer of 1865 turn. If the Union has not won by this time, the Confederacy is considered the winner.
On the strategic map, move the cursor with the arrow keys to the area you want to move units from and press either the space bar or the enter key. Then move the cursor to the area you want to move from and press the space bar or enter key. Then answer either y or n to the each unit to indicate whether you want it o move. If you answer a then that unit and all the remaining units will be moved. If you type an i in the area it is an inspect command and you will see a list of the units in that area.

Another thing that really makes The Civil War enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to The Civil War. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
