Proliferation is a global strategy game that takes place in the near future. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, a dangerous period ensued. No longer was there a handful of nuclear states with strict governmental control of nuclear technology. Now, a number of smaller states, in desperate economic condition, possessed state of the art nuclear weapons. The danger existed, not only of these states employing the weapons in conflict, but also of selling the technology to richer, third world nations.
Proliferation takes place in a world where the worst possible outcome came to pass. Weapons and technology spread from the Soviet splinter states to other nations. Instability in the world’s hot spots resulted in a number of nuclear exchanges. Iraq massed its forces, nuclear and conventional, and annexed most of its Middle-Eastern neighbors. The newly-formed state, Babylon, now controlled most of the world’s oil production. This production was crippled to a large extent by the ruthless ICBM attacks that shortly followed.
Now, the world powers have polarized, and can agree on only one thing: that the only true hope for peace is the establishment of a single global nation. Forces have massed, and tactical and strategic nukes have been mobilized. Huge global military campaigns have commenced, as each of the powers attempts to assert itself as the global champion.

Another thing that really makes Proliferation enjoyable for me is how it manages to stay interesting even after playing it multiple times. Many games feel repetitive after a while, but here, the experience still feels fresh because of the small details and different ways you can approach the gameplay. As you continue playing, you naturally start improving and understanding the mechanics better, which makes everything feel more rewarding. I also appreciate the balance the game maintains—it’s not too difficult, but it’s not too easy either. You can play it casually for a short break or spend longer sessions without getting bored. That flexibility is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back to Proliferation. Overall, it’s the kind of game that doesn’t just entertain you for a moment, but actually gives you a consistently enjoyable experience every time you play.
